The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has stated that it is on a manhunt for a Lagos socialite and suspected drug baroness who is wanted in connection with cocaine trafficking.
The suspect, identified as Fumilola Arike Ogbuaya, other wise called Arike Fumilola Ogundipe. She allegedly was involved in smuggling 1.595kg of cocaine from the Lagos airport to Saudi Arabia in February 2017.
According to NDLEA spokesman Mitchell Ofoyeju, who said the agency is also investigating Mrs. Ogbuaya’s multi-billion naira assets, allegedly the proceeds of drug sales.
The agency began investigation into Mrs. Ogbuaya after arresting one Odeyemi Omolara Morayo, also known as Ariyo Monsurat Olabisi, for drug trafficking.
The investigation into Mr. Morayo implicated Mrs. Ogbuaya. NDLEA then invited her for questioning but it was avail.
NDLEA officers later went to her Lagos home, but she was not seen at home.
The agency is investigating several land properties worth several billions of naira that were traced to Ogbuaya in Lagos, Ogun and Osun States.
The assets include Arike Plaza, some plots of land, and buildings in strategic locations.
The Lagos socialite is a distributor of alcoholic drinks, hails from Ilesa, Osun State.
NDLEA Chief Executive, Muhammad Mustapha Abdallah, has pledged to pursue the case to a logical conclusion and to trace all illicit drug proceeds.
He urged the public who has information as to the whereabouts of Ogbuaya to report to the nearest NDLEA office.
