The Malawi police reported they have arrested a man whom was supposed HIV-positive after he revealed he rapes virgin girls and women as part of sexual cleansing rituals.
The suspect identified as Eric Aniva, was arrested and taken into custody in southern Nsanje district. The President of Malawi, Peter Mutharika ordered his arrest on Monday, according to media reports.
In an interview with BBC recently, Aniva confessed that he raped girls as young as 12 without using protection.
According to research, the sexual cleansing is a traditional culture that is being practised in some areas of Malawi. This sexual cleansing requires girls and women to be purified through sexual intercourse with a man who is been paid for the service.
