RIO 2016: Mikel named Dream Team VI captain

Chelsea midfielder, John Mikel Obi has been handed the skippo arm band going into the Olympics in Rio.

The Olympics will start on August 5, and Mikel will lead the Dream Team VI in Brazil while he will be assisted by defender Azubuike Okechukwu.

"It's just natural for me to pick Mikel as our captain," Siasia revealed on Saturday at meeting with players and officials.

"Aside the fact that he is the captain of the Super Eagles, he is also Team Nigeria captain, so after meeting with both of them and explaining my position, I am pleased to say Azubuike who has been our captain understood and was happy to hand over the captain’s band to Mikel.

"It is a thing of joy for my team to produce the first footballer to captain Team Nigeria to the Olympics. This, to me, is more than gratifying."

The U-23 team will kick start their campaign on August 4th against Japan at AmazĂ´nia Arena, Manaus.
