Four Men Sentenced To Death By Firing Squad In Ondo

Yesterday, the  High Court in Akure, Ondo State sentenced four members of an armed robbery gang to death by firing squad.


The convicts  were said to be involved in hijacking petroleum tanker at gun point.

Their names are: Abdurahman Yinusa, Maliki Sanni, Ajayi Saliu and Mohammed Jimoh.

Back in December, 2009, the convicts were involved in series of robbery operations at Isua/Idoani expressway in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The prosecution counsel, Mr. John Olowokere,said that the convicts did hijacked a DAF truck with registration number number XN 810 ABC transporting 33,000 litres of petrol.

He further revealed that the three of the criminals drove the petrol truck away while the the other two accompanied the driver and the conductor into the bush where they were tied down till the following day.

According to the prosecuting counsel, the convicts are guilty of four-count charge of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, armed robbery, murder and illegal possession of fire arms contrary to contrary to section 6(b) of the Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions)Act R11, Laws of Federation 2004.

In conclusion, the presiding judge, Justice D.I. Kolawole of the Special Criminal High Court, Olokuta Medium Security Prison, ruled that the prosecution counsel was able to substantiate the case against the accused.

As the accused men were guilty of the charges according to the Law of The Federation and were sentenced to death by firing squad.
