Serena is ‘pain free’ ahead of US Open- Serena Williams’ coach reveals

The coach of Serena Williams, Patrick Mouratoglou has revealed that world female tennis number one is set to add to her tally of grand slams when the US open begins.


Serena Williams withdrew from the Cincinnati tournament last week as she been battling from with a right shoulder injury.

“She has been pain-free for a few days now,” he told ESPN on Sunday.

“The shoulder is still not 100 percent but it’s very close and she will find a way. She has a lot more to her game than just the serve — she has the power and mental strength.

“She wanted to play the Olympics in Rio, it was very important for her but the shoulder was killing her. She was just putting balls in play, but that’s the past.”

The US Open which begins today August 29 will see Serena face Ekaterina Makarova from Russia, the world number 36, on Tuesday.
