ABS FC’s Injured Metu Out For Rest Of The Campaign

Henry Makinwa, the Head Coach of Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Football Club of Ilorin, on Friday confirmed that wing player Chigozirim Metu will no longer feature for the club this season.

Makinwa told newsmen in Ilorin that Metu has a fracture which has inhibited his further participation in the ongoing football season.

He said Metu fractured his tibia after a heavy challenge on him by Kano Pillars’ Jamil Jamil.

“Tibia is the larger and stronger of the two bones in the leg below the knee in vertebrates, the other being the fibula,” the coach explained.

While describing the development as a setback, Makinwa however said the good news was that Metu would not need surgery to heal.

“Metu only needs casting to assist the injury to heal on time,’’ he said.

Euro U-21: Germany Defeats Spain To Lift The Cup

Mitchell Weiser scored with a looping first-half header to hand Germany the under-21 European Championship title after a 1-0 win over Spain in the southern Polish city of Krakow on Friday.

It is Germany’s second title in the age group following their triumph in 2009, while Spain failed to expand their collection of four titles.

Hertha Berlin winger Weiser sent a header arcing over Spanish keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and into the far corner on 40 minutes for his first goal of the tournament following a cross from right-back Jeremy Toljan.

Spain came into the final having claimed four wins in as many games at the tournament and coach Albert Celades went with the same team that started in the 3-1 semi-final victory over Italy.

Opposing coach Stefan Kuntz lost his leading striker Davie Selke to injury but welcomed back defender Niklas Stark, who had missed the semi-final drama against England when Germany won on penalties.

Spain started in high spirits, but Germany soon regained their composure to outplay their rivals in the first half.

Max Meyer headed against the post early on and Germany deserved the breakthrough when it arrived with the interval approaching, with Jesus Vallejo not getting close enough to Weiser as he met Toljan’s cross.

Spain came out of the changing room more determined to attack in the second half, but the closest they came to equalising was a left-footed curler from Saul Niguez that was saved by Julian Pollersbeck.

At the other end, Meyer put through Serge Gnabry who failed to beat Arrizabalaga with a low shot.

Dani Ceballos then blasted a shot just past the post while Gerard Deulofeu’s shot was cleared by the German defence which easily survived the inefficient Spanish pressure of the final minutes.

The Federal Government says it has released the sum of N420.2 million to the Nigeria film industry popularly called Nollywood to improve and support aspiring practitioners.

The Federal Government says it has released the sum of N420.2 million to the Nigeria film industry popularly called Nollywood to improve and support aspiring practitioners.

The Federal Government says it has released the sum of N420.2 million to the Nigeria film industry popularly called Nollywood to improve and support aspiring practitioners.

According to a statement issued by the Deputy Director of Information, Federal Ministry of Finance, Mrs Patricia Deworitshe, on Friday in Abuja, the money, which is the second tranche payment will benefit 105 film distributors.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that the Federal Government had earlier introduced the “Project Act Nollywood’’, with three primary components aimed at developing the movie making value chain.

The components are the Film Production Fund (FPF), Capacity Building Fund (CBF) and Innovative Distribution Fund (IDF).

The FPF and CBF have been fully implemented, while the IDF, which is the third component of the project, is on-going.

The IDF covers online, National, Regional and community categories of Nollywood Film distribution and exhibition.

The objectives of IDF are to improve the distribution network of Nigerian Audio-Visual contents, cut down on piracy, create jobs, and protect Intellectual Property Rights (IPR) within the Nigerian Entertainment Industry.

NAN reports that N1.8 billion was approved for disbursement to 106 beneficiaries in this component; and N1.335 billion was disbursed earlier in the year as first tranche to 105 beneficiaries.

Deworitshe said that before the release of the second tranche, the finance ministry had earlier carried out a successful monitoring and evaluation of the first tranche disbursement.

“Fifteen community cinemas and viewing centres have been established through the grant and this has improved the distribution network of movies in Nigeria.

“The programme has supported 18 firms in strengthening online distribution platforms, this has helped curb illegal downloads and piracy.

“Two hundred and fifty six permanent jobs and 544 temporary jobs have been created through the financial support provided to 105 beneficiaries by the programme,’’ she said.

Deworitshe said the programme had also aided the extension of the Nollywood Industry to sub-Sahara Africa through the funding of National distributors to expand their distribution capacity and network.

She said through the programme, distributors had expanded their capacity to lip-synching their content in French for onward distribution to the ECOWAS sub-region. (NAN)

Meet Lionel Messi Wife To Be, Antonella Roccuzzo

Lionel Messi left his hometown of Rosario as a child in order to join Barcelona, but his links to the city remain strong.

None is stronger than his long-term relationship with Antonella Roccuzzo, who he grew up with in Argentina and now shares two children with. Messi first confirmed he had a girlfriend back in 2009 and on June 30, they will return home to marry each other at a star-studded ceremony.

But who is Antonella and how did she get to know the five-time Ballon d'Or winner? This is what we know about Messi's main confidante.

Roccuzzo was born in Rosario, like Messi, and is the cousin of the Barcelona star's childhood friend Lucas Scaglia.

Messi has a reputation for shyness - particularly as a youngster - but is said to have been besotted with Antonella from a young age, regularly visiting Scaglia's family home just to get a chance to see her.

She attended university in Argentina - studying odotology before switching to social communication - and then moved to Barcelona to join Leo. She is likely to have focused on raising the couple's two sons, Thiago and Mateo, over the past few years but recently launched her own line of footwear with Sofia Balbi, the wife of Luis Suarez.

According to Infobae, Antonella's relationship with Leo blossomed after Messi returned to Rosario to console her following the death of a friend in a traffic accident. That is said to have been sometime back in 2007, but their association was kept private for years.

Generally speaking, Antonella has continued to stay out of the spotlight - though she amassed over four million followers on Instagram.

The 29-year-old is known to be close friends with Suarez's wife Sofia and Cesc Fabregas' partner Daniella Semaan.

Leo and Antonella have two sons; Thiago, born on November 2, 2012 and is now four, and Mateo, who was born on September 11, 2015 and is one.

Messi has tributes to both of his children tattooed on his body and also sports both of their names on his boots. Clearly a proud father, he also regularly shares pictures of the family on his Instagram account.

Having been together for at least eight or nine years now and with two children, Messi and Roccuzzo will finally tie the knot on June 30 at a ceremony in their hometown of Rosario.

Messi's Barcelona team-mates will be in attendance at City Center, a hotel and casino complex, to help them celebrate the big day.

The wedding will be guarded by a huge team of security personnel headed up by a former Argentinian military officer, with fans allowed to watch a live stream of the ceremony nearby.

There has also been talk of a smaller ceremony being held back in Barcelona for those who cannot make the trip to South America, but that is unconfirmed.

As mentioned, the Barcelona squad - as well as a few of Messi's Argentina team-mates and former colleagues - have been invited to the 'main' wedding in Rosario, though, making for what looks set to be quite the party in the duo's home city.

Kylie And Kendall Jenner Apologize After Heat Over T-Shirts

Kendall and Kylie Jenner apologized Thursday for “vintage” T-shirts superimposing their images with those of famous musicians, including Ozzy Osbourne, Tupac Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G.

The sisters began selling the shirts Wednesday online for $125 each as part of their Kendall + Kylie brand. Sales of the shirts were halted and the apology issued after Osbourne’s wife, Sharon Osbourne, and Voletta Wallace, the mother of the late Notorious B.I.G complained of appropriation on social media.

“Girls, you haven’t earned the right to put your face with musical icons. Stick to what you know.lip gloss,” Osbourne tweeted.

On Instagram, Wallace put a huge red X through the shirt featuring her rap legend son and made herself clear:

“I am not sure who told @kyliejenner and @kendalljenner that they had the right to do this. The disrespect of these girls to not even reach out to me or anyone connected to the estate baffles me. I have no idea why they feel they can exploit the deaths of 2pac and my Son Christopher to sell a t-shirt. This is disrespectful, disgusting, and exploitation at its worst!!!”

The shirts were taken down and Kylie Jenner tweeted, in part: “These designs were not well thought out and we deeply apologize to anyone that has been upset and/or offended, especially to the families of the artists.”

A statement later released by the sisters’ brand said the shirts are one-of-a-kind repurposed vintage T-shirts and the designs were “randomly selected and not well thought out.” The brand, too, apologized for “any insensitivity” and added that “we missed the mark completely.”

680 JTF members killed by Boko Haram

680 members of the Civilian Joint Task Force have died trying to repel Boko Haram terrorist attacks in Borno from 2012 to date, the groups Legal Officer, Mr Junril Gunda, has said.

Gunda said in an interview in Maiduguri on Friday that in spite of the high casualty figure, the JTF remain undaunted in its resolve to protect communities in the state from the terrorists.

“The group which is nonprofitable started in 2012 when our youths picked up sticks and said no more Boko Haram and they successfully push the terrorist group out of Maiduguri.

“We don’t have any other home than Borno, we are therefore working tirelessly to provide civic protections against any form of threat represented by Boko Haram.

“Sadly a lot of our youths have paid the supreme price, there is hardly any day you will hear of an attack without one of our civilian JTF killed and that does not mean we will stop defending our land of terrorism.

“As you can see I am a lawyer by profession, this is my Chamber and I am happy to also be one of the Civilian JTF. I was also trained for eight months on light arms use by the military.

“If I see a Boko Haram now, I can take him down with my gun.

“It was necessary to train our civilian JTF on the use of arms because they always move along with the military in the front line during operations.

“Our civilian JTF had taken part in almost all the operations going on in Sambisa forest.

“It was also necessary because they are always the first to sight Boko Haram suspects during checks in the state capital.

“Boko Haram members are not afraid of the military, they are afraid of the civilian JTF; they believe if a civilian JTF kill any of them, they will go to hell. Many of them have said this during their testimonies,” said Gunda.

According to him, no fewer than 23,000 youth vigilantes have been registered under the body to provide civic protection in every nooks and cranny of the state.

He said that the job of the Civilian JTF was purely to stop Boko Haram insurgents from causing havoc in the society.

Gunda said there were numerous challenges confronting the group because the members were not been paid for the job.

“Like I said earlier, it was a voluntary thing, so no one was paid any penny for the job and because of some difficulties and poor living conditions of the youths, some engage in begging to fend for themselves.

“It was as the result of this that Borno State Government decided to empower 1,400 of them as vanguards with the acronym BOYES and were being paid N15, 000 monthly.

“Government and other nongovernmental organizations must also give support to the other 20,000 youths who were not empowered.

“They should also give priority attention to widows of our deceased youths because we are left to carter for their welfare.

“Government should sponsor their children and give them a better life in recognition of the selfless sacrifices made by their parents,” said Gunda.

I Am Happy At Chelsea - Zuma

Kurt Zouma has insisted that he wants to stay at Chelsea beyond the summer transfer window.

The French defender has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer because of his lack of playing time with Chelsea last season.

Indeed, Zouma only started three games in the Premier League for Chelsea last season as he found his first-team opportunities to be significantly restricted.

His lack of playing time last term has inevitably prompted suggestions that he could leave Stamford Bridge in search of regular first team football.

However, the player himself has now moved to pour cold water on those reports and insists that he is happy to stay at Chelsea and fight for his first-team place under Antonio Conte.

Speaking to France Football about his future, Zouma said: “I’m very happy at Chelsea.

“I hear the rumours, it’s flattering. It means I’m a player people are looking at, but I’m not going to stop there.

“My objective is to stay at Chelsea. Next season, we’ll start from scratch, there will be a lot of games.”

Chelsea are believed to be on the lookout for a number of new signings this summer but the Blues are yet to confirm the arrival of any new players.

The Blues could be in the market for a new defender after John Terry called time on his Chelsea career at the end of last season.

FIFA  has warned Sudan that it faces an international ban from football unless it overturns a governmental order to install a new football association president, BBC Sportreports.

The ban is set to begin on  Saturday  after two rival group claimed control of the country’s association.

On  June 2, Sudan’s Ministry of Justice ordered the FIFA-recognised SFA president Mutasim Gaafar  Elkhatim to be removed and replaced by Abdel Rahman Elkatim.

Football’s world governing body prohibits governmental interference in the running of a member association.

If the ban comes into place then Sudanese club Al Hilal Obeid would feel the effect immediately as they are due to play in the Confederation Cup on Saturday.

The country’s two biggest clubs Al Hilal and Al Merreikh play on Friday in the  Champions League so would initially avoid the sanction.

In April, Abdel Rahman won SFA elections even though FIFA  had previously stated that no elections should take place until late 2017.

After Mutasim Gaafar reported the matter to FIFA, claiming the elections were illegal, the governing body took action this week.

The 20-year-old has retired from football due to depression according to reports gathered.

He used to plied his trade with English football league two side Luton Town. He had just four senior games for the Hatters after coming through the club’s ranks.

He thanked the whole club for support, singling out physio Simon Parsell and club doctor Paul Deeley, and hopes to play football at a lower level.

Luton said they “fully respect and understand his decision” and said they would continue to offer support.

The club statement continued: “All at the club would like to wish Craig every success in both his football career and life away from the professional game, and look forward to seeing him back at Kenilworth Road where he’ll always be a welcome guest.”

According to King’s statement:

“After a memorable nine seasons I have decided to leave Luton Town.

“This has been the hardest decision I have ever had to make, but after many sleepless nights I have come to this conclusion.

“For the last couple of years I have been suffering from quite severe depression.

“The season just gone has been particularly hard for me and now I feel it’s time for me to concentrate on being happy once again.

“Growing up and slowly starting to despise the game I loved and adored as a boy is heartbreaking, and something I want and need to change.

“The only way I see this becoming a possibility is taking myself away from the professional game and starting to enjoy football at a lower level.

“The club have been aware of my situation and have been amazing at trying everything in their power to try to resolve the issue.

“Club physio Simon Parsell and club doctor Paul Deeley have been unreal support for me and helped me through the season. Now I am at the stage where I know I can’t improve my current mental state whilst being at the club.

“I would like to thank every single member of Luton Town for everything they have done for me over the years.

“The fans who when I’ve played have supported me, and every single person who associates themselves with the football club.

“Although my career as a player at the club has come to an end, I will always love and support the Hatters and will be forever grateful for the opportunity and memories they have given me over the past nine years.

“I’m excited to see the boys win promotion next season and continue the climb up the leagues!”

Montpellier President Dies At 74 Years Old

Montpellier president Louis Nicollin, who helped to produce one of the biggest upsets in French football when his unfashionable club won the league in 2012, has died. He was 74.

Montpellier said in a statement that Nicollin, who had been their president since 1974, died on Thursday, his birthday.

Never shy of controversy, Nicollin made his fortune in waste collection and began funding the southern club after taking control. His reward after 38 years was for Montpellier to become French champions for the first time, and at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain.

Montpellier's title-winning squad featured nine homegrown players, in contrast to PSG's relentless pursuit of stars at the expense of their own youth academy. Striker Olivier Giroud, who scored 21 league goals, left for Arsenal.

A close friend of Nicollin, former France great Michel Platini mourned the death of someone "exceptional."

Louis Nicollin had been Montpellier president since 1974.

"To put it simply, I loved him like a brother. A part of me has just gone," Platini said in a statement. "Louis was my closest friend in football over the past 30 years."

Under Nicollin, Montpellier won the second division title in 1987 and the French Cup in 1990 with a team featuring the likes of Eric Cantona, Laurent Blanc and Julio Cesar.

However, Nicollin also made the headlines for the wrong reasons, with his profanity-laced tirades landing him in trouble more than once.

In 2009, he was banned for two months for using an anti-gay term to describe Auxerre midfielder Benoit Pedretti. He later apologised to Pedretti, who did not pursue the matter.

"We only need 35 players for the season and some players were not even registered but training with the club. It was just too much.

"What we've done is retain the ones who have something to offer and bring in ten new players as well. It's like separating the wheat from the chaff.

"The atmosphere has changed now and we now have a squad capable of fighting in our tough quest for promotion."

Akwuegbu also revealed that Mighty Jets FC will continue to release players at the end of the season.

Mighty Jets won the Nigeria’s top division title in 1972 and won the NNL title in 2003, they were promoted to the top division where they only played a season before going back to the NNL.
