FG set to establish sport university

The Nigerian Senate has initiated a bill for the establishment of a Sports University in Nigeria.

According to Daily Post, Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki, made this public when he hosted the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Sports Writers Association (SWAN) on Tuesday, November 29.

“Sports is vital in social development of every nation and Nigeria cannot be an exception. Our main challenge is in the area of sports administration and we must begin to put in place those things that can help us to achieve our full potentials.
“Already at the senate level, we have a bill for the establishment of a Sports University in Nigeria. This is to make sure that we have the right people in this sector which is very critical for our development as a nation.
“At times it is frustrating the way sports is managed in Nigeria. It is very embarrassing to here evert now and then that our athletes were stranded or that we could not register for competitions due to lack of money.
“We have been working on two important bills for the repealing of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and that of the National Sports Commission (NSC) laws using every legal legislative process and as soon as possible the NFF bill will be amended”, he said.
